The Challenge We Face
Teenagers living near Karatu District, Mang'ola County, Tanzania face a difficult environment causing many of them to drop out of school before completing their primary education. This in turn leads to:
Abandonment by fathers
Emotionally, the absence of a father can lead to feelings of insecurity, low self-esteem, and stress, affecting mental and social development.
Child Pregnancies & Early Marriage
Young girls often become pregnant and marry early, leading to abandonment by fathers and endangering both mother and child
Young men drifting into drugs and theft
Young men drift into drug use (particularly marijuana) and theft due to lack of opportunities
Sexual violence against teenagers
Teenagers face sexual violence within the community
Economic hardship preventing school attendance
Families struggle to provide basic necessities and educational opportunities
